A FERVENT APPEAL TO ALL SOCORRCARS IN INDIA AND ABROAD

Dear Socorrocars

Greetings from the Parishioners and Parish Priest of Socorro!

Long back there was a circular letter of the Archbishop-Patriarch stating a diocesan policy decision that every Church should have its Corpus Fund, a Fixed Amount that would remain in permanent Fixed Deposit. This amount could be touched in case of emergency only with the permission of the diocesan authorities; so far Socorro parishioners have not attempted to accumulate that amount. Other parishes have done that and also declared their Church Corpus Fund to the diocesan authorities. When I tried to ascertain that fixed amount of Corpus Fund for Socorro Church from the Secretariat of Fabricas in the Bishop House, Fr. Luciano Fernandes, Secretary told me that Socorro Church Corpus Fund must be (revised upwards from Rs.30 lakhs to) at least 40 lakhs, because the interest rate has gone down. The Corpus Fund is to be kept intact and its interest may be spent for usual Church needs.

Including the grant of Comunidade de Serula - Rs. 7 lakhs, Socorro Church has got approximately 20 lakhs in F.D. Socorro Church is holding 2 separate Accounts, namely 1-Fabrica da Igreja de Socorro S.B. A/c. No. 9001 and 2-Church Repairs S.B. A/c No. 9033, both the accounts in Corporation Bank, Extension Counter, Socorro.

It is time up to gather Rs.10 lakhs within this new year. In the first round attempt to raise that amount I appeal to the generosity of parishioners who can afford to donate Rs. 10,000/- or more.

An old parishioner who seriously reads the write-ups in column Oxem ghoddta of our parish bulletin "DARSHAN" had asked me what is the way to ensure the survival of his family, generation after generation; in reply I had told him that the best way to ensure and insure our families before God is to uphold the divine (His) institutions, like local Church, Diocese, etc. The next day he presented himself before me in the Church office with a Cheque for Rs. 11.000/-.

Emboldened by this type of generosity I appeal to generous parishioners and benefactors to join in this first round of contributions of Rs.10.000/- or more. Our Lady of Succour (succour means help) will surely help this major drive to collect Rs. 10 lakhs before the year 2007 runs full circle so that Darshan Jan. 2008 issue will carry the honour roll of these benefactors. Time is ripe to give something BIG to God.

May God and Our Lady of Succour reward and help you in all your endeavours.

N.B. If anyone wants to be anonymous donor, let him/her collect the Donation Receipt.
